What's the talk about?
Professor Peter John will talk about his experiments with information, nudges and the internet, showing how small nudges can have large effects. Some of these are reported in his co-authored book, Nudge, Nudge, Think, Think, published by Bloomsbury. He is interested in how very small changes in the design of institutions or information systems can make a big difference to our communities, in particular by allowing what he calls social information to create bandwagon effects. After all it was social media that help create the Arab Spring, and in similar ways we can e-petition or mobilise to get things done…provided other people notice.
